Update!

Hi Everyone!

I hope all of you have been great. :)

About the treasurer, I am still in the midst of appointing the right person to helm the post so do keep a lookout here to know who our treasurer will be. Can't give a dateline but should be quite soon. Awaiting confirmation only. LOL.

Also, a few of us had a discussion during the last training on Saturday about the training time. Seems from what I have gathered, Saturday doesn't seem to be a day that is preferable for quite a number of people.

Hmm, let me share what I think: For me, the no.1 reason is because Sunday should be a rest day for most of us. I think after a hectic 6 days, we should rest and spend time with our families on Sunday before heading out to meet life's challenges again the next day. Having floorball right smack in the evening of a Sunday is quite tiring especially if the venue is far. By the time we get home, we would have missed out on dinner with the family etc. etc. We're still working out on the venue and I think most of us love the Sek 19 Shah Alam Volleyall court, for those of you whose been there. Updates on next week's venue will be posted this week so do keep a lookout. We haven't booked the court for the coming week yet but we will confirm it soon here. :)

Back to the topic (Sorry-lah guys, terpesong sikit), the no .2 reason is because for those from Grace Shah Alam where most of us are from, there is Youth meetings after service on Sunday and being youth members of Grace, I think we should support the work being done. If it does not have our support, then how to grow right? I feel that if we commit first and foremost to Him, He will then bless us with growth, both in Youth and also the club. I know it might be hard to start playing on Saturday mornings but i guess if we can commit ourselves, it will soon become a routine for us.

Err, the 2 reasons above are basically what I have in mind (besides the fact that waking up early on a Saturday morning can be quite good also lah although for some of us its probably the only day we can sleep in late. But as I get older i realize that time is really really precious so waking up early on a Saturday kinda enables me to enjoy my weekend better. Maybe it does not apply for some, coz sleeping is an enjoyment? Haha).

Anyways, I know its hard for quite a number of people to come for trainings on Saturdays so its still an open discussion. I have prepared a poll on the blog (again!) due to lack of participation on the last poll so be sure to make a vote and leave a comment that you have done so on the chat column so we know who have or have not voted. You can leave a comment too if you have a tought to share. If you have much more, can email the blog email and I'll be sure to publish it up. Remember, every vote counts! (LOL. Macam pilihanraya!)

Hmm, guess this should be all the sharings I have for this week. Till the next blogpost, which would hopefully be on the treasurer, take care and have a great week ahead.

Regards,
Gerard

  1. Having heard from Gerard his thoughts on why Gracebandy's training should be on Saturday mornings, let me now share my reasons for it to be held on Sunday evenings.

Firstly, there are a number of players who have to work on Saturdays, whether willingly or otherwise. Training on Saturday mornings would therefore restrict them from participating.

Secondly, I agree with the notion of waking up early on a Saturday morning to fully utilise my weekends. At the same time, I have received some feedback from players that training at 10 a.m. on a Saturday morning is too early. Since we switched training to Saturday mornings, I wake up at 7.30 a.m., drive to KJ Station to get some Sali players to the hall, arrive by 9.15, setup the goal posts by 9.30, and then proceed to practice shooting with Alvin/Billy till enough players hav arrived to play a game. On average, we start at 11.00. The court bookings are from 10-12pm officially, but by God's grace the Pakcik opens allows us to use the hall from 9-1pm. But with players arriving from 10.30 onwards...hmmm...go figure.

Thirdly, it is understandable and most admirable that some of us want to commit ourselves to the Grace youth ministry on Sunday afternoons. Training on Saturday morning would allow this group of people to play floorball yet attend the Youth thingy on Sundays. However, with all due respect, except for Gerard, NONE of the players who attend the Sunday youth thingy came for training on Saturday mornings.

Finally, though this may not affect most of you, if anyone remembers, the kids from AMSA Floorball train on Sunday evenings, right after the timeslot when we used to train. By training on Saturday, some of us who help coach the kids will have to make 2 trips to Shah Alam every week: training on Saturday and helping out with the kids on Sunday.

Since switching to Saturday mornings, attendance of Gracebandy players (and other floorball lovers) to our weekly training sessions have decreased significantly. In view of the preceding reasons, I humbly propose for training to be held on Sunday evenings at the Section 19 hall.

Just an honest opinion of mine. Please, no hard feelings ok people.

    Regards,
    Phil
